A typical menu for me as of late…let’s not get into it.

If advances in technology mean that we can get the same economic output with increasingly less human labor input, why do we have to keep working as much as we do?  Oh, maybe it’s because we waste over half a trillion dollars a year on “defense.”

Some crude numbers: $500 billion divided by 300 million US citizens equals $1666 per citizen per year.  Divide that by the federal minimum wage of $5.85 and you get 284 hours, or 35 8-hour days per person per year that could paid for by defense spending. Instead of getting those 35 days, you actually work them in order to pay for the spending.  We could be using our increased productivity to buy ourselves leisure time, or we could use it to build bombs that kill people.  As if the choice isn’t obvious already, I’ll leave you with some words from the Tao:

When a country is in harmony with the Tao,
